About the Studio
Students of all ages and levels are welcome at Asuka's Piano Studio.
Curriculum is based on the student's individual goals, needs and
personality. Lessons are held once a week at Asuka's studio in
Morningside Heights.
Lessons
Beginners (5 years and up)
Beginners will meet once a week for 30 minutes. The focus in the lessons
during the beginning stages will be to establish good daily practice
habits as well as proper use of the hands, learning basic rhythm and
reading and playing in basic hand positions. For young beginners, music games and award incentives will be used to make the lessons more fun and engaging. Students will be working
with method book.
Early Intermediate (1+ years experience)
Students will meet once a week for 45 minutes. Supplementary pieces and music activities outside of method book will be "prescribed" to improve certain areas such as technique, rhythm and sight-reading. Students will be encouraged to listen to and attend concerts to be familiarized with music of famous classical composers. NYSSMA examination training will begin in this stage.
Late Intermediate to Advance (3+ years experience)
Students will meet at least once a week for 60-minutes. Curriculum will be based on
musical goals of student. For example, exam/competition participation
and Pre-College preparation will be encouraged for those who are
interested in pursuing classical music seriously. Basic improvising,
comping and harmonizing skills will be taught to those who are
interested in exploring Jazz and Pop music.
Fees
30-minute session: $35, not available for house calls
45-minute session: $50, $60-$70 house calls
60-minute session: $65, $75-$85 house calls
- Fee's are paid in advance at the beginning of each month to reserve student's weekly time slot.
- House calls (in-home lessons) are available at teacher's discretion. Fees will be based on location of student's home.

Performance Opportunities
Students will have an opportunity to perform in 2 recitals a year in venues such as the
Tenri Cultural Institute,
St. Stephen's Church and
Steinway Hall.
Students will also get to perform in a more informal setting amongst their peers in Studio Class Performances. Topics such as performance etiquette and how to deal with nerves will be addressed.
EXAMS
Students are also encouraged to participate in the yearly
NYSSMA music exams to further enhance their music education. Pupils of Asuka Fu's Studio have all received grades Excellent and above.
